Cheesy Tampons

Watch the commercial and learn more about it, visit the website: http://www.playtexsport.com/

It was about time I ran into another bad ad. Although this pretty much takes the cake of cheesy, borderline weird advertisement, I think that the product could actually have some legs in which to hold itself up. The ‘sport’ tampon commercial is all in all ridiculous. The tampon features a ‘contoured no slip grip’, which is paralleled in an odd clip of a female doing flips on a gymnasts bar, the 360 degrees of coverage, and an extra ‘backup layer’, all of which have some kind of sport clip that is supposed to be a kind of analogy to its benefits. All in all strange. Its ineffective and cheesy visuals don’t have anything to do with what is happening in the sport shown. I do get its supposed to be athletic, but the toxic green applicator color is unsavory, its mostly gross. Also, when visiting the website, I found that their ‘Take the Plunge’ tagline for trials were a little to graphic, if you know what I mean, its sounds a little perverse even. It says that ‘4 out of 5 girls who try it want to buy it!’. I said really, am I wrong about this? No, in small print it said ‘* based upon the results of a concept test, among those who were positive to the concept before trial’, of course they said they’d buy it, they already said they liked it. This just further displays the stupidity of this creative team.

The Playtex Sport tampon advertisement must have been created by a male. I don’t feel it makes it attractive to females (13-24 year olds), it even turns me off to the idea of trying it. It sounds too technically advanced and gimmicky to be as simple as a disposable product, its not a remote control or anything. All in all I found the advertising concept and execution to be more disturbing than informative. Also, they could have come up with something more sophisticated and not so infomercial-like. Like the Secret deoterant commericals, why do female hygiene commericials stink so badly?
